Bath utility back Michael Stephenson has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Rec for another three seasons.

The 26-year-old has already scored seven tries this season, including a hat-trick against Connacht in January in the European Challenge Cup, and has made 37 appearances in total for the club, either at wing or full-back.

Stephenson joined the club from Newcastle Falcons in 2005, but his debut was delayed by his having broken his leg towards the end of his time with the north-eastern side. He required the insertion of a pin in his leg, and admits that it took a while for him to recover his confidence.

He said: "I think this season so far has been a lot more positive for me than my first year.

"I don't really feel that I've shown what I can do over a long period of time so this contract is an opportunity to do that."

It also reflects his optimism and happiness with Bath as a club and a city.

He continued: "It feels like we are building things here at Bath.

"We have settled here and that was a big factor in committing for three years. You have to base your decision on the balance of rugby and of the area, and Bath ticked both boxes."
