Gavin Henson is hoping to return to the Ospreys following the conclusion of the Rugby World Cup.

The 29-year-old centre is on the lookout for a new club after his much-publicised departure from Top 14 heavyweights Toulon at the end of last season.

Henson quit the Ospreys, following a self-imposed exile from the game, to join Saracens late in 2010. After three matches with the Watford-based side he was cleared for a cross-Channel move, but he failed to win a contract at the Stade Mayol following an alleged altercation with team-mates.

He is hoping to press his claims for Wales' World Cup squad in Saturday's warm-up clash with England in Cardiff, and also to convince his former region that he is worthy of another chance.

"I want to be back in Wales for family reasons to be honest," he told WalesOnline. "Hopefully the Ospreys will have me back and they will be the first people I speak to.

"I want to see what happens with Wales and try to get to the World Cup. Whether it is in a couple of weeks or after the World Cup, that is when I will sign for one of the regions, and hopefully it will be the Ospreys. My agent knows what I want so hopefully it can happen."

The midfielder admitted that he needs to produce 'something special' to make the World Cup panel, with Jamie Roberts, Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams and James Hook also in the frame as centre options.

"There are definitely three centres ahead of me at the moment so I need to do something pretty special if I get that one chance. I am feeling the pressure but that is a good thing," he said.

"I felt I didn't play that well against the Barbarians and I think I left my game in training a bit. I have to go for it now because all the other centres are on top of their game."
