The Cardiff Blues made an early statement of intent by hammering Edinburgh 38-15 at Murrayfield on the opening day of the new RaboDirect PRO12 season.
After Ceri Sweeney and Greg Laidlaw had exchanged penalties early on, the Blues took control when Sam Hobbs flopped over towards the end of the first quarter. Sweeney and Laidlaw continued to match each other kick for kick as Cardiff took a 15-9 lead into the break with them.
The Welsh region then cut loose in the second half, pulling clear thanks to two tries in the space of eight minutes through Andreis Pretorius and Hobbs, before Tom James dived over with seven minutes remaining to put the seal on a fine bonus-point victory.
