Edinburgh captain Greig Laidlaw has signed a new two-year contract extension with the RaboDirect PRO12 club.

The scrum-half had one year remaining on his contract before signing the new deal which will keep at the club until the summer of 2014. Laidlaw was named the players' player of the year last season and coach Michael Bradley handed his the club captaincy for the new season.

The 25-year-old has taken that form forward with two man-of-the-match performances, against Newcastle in pre-season and the Ospreys in the PRO12 clash, in the last four games.

"I'm really happy to be staying at Edinburgh Rugby for another two years," he said. "There's a lot of good feeling and exciting changes happening off the pitch while we're about to start a new chapter under head coach Michael Bradley.

"There are a lot of good young players coming though the club and I think that if we can build on their ability we can progress as a club, improve our league position and build our crowd and support."
