Wales hooker Huw Bennett admits he is open to new offers despite being in talks with the Ospreys over a new contract.

Along with team-mate Adam Jones, Bennett is out of contract at the end of the season. And the 28-year-old, who has won 49 caps for Wales, is considering his options.

"If an offer came in for any player then you are going to look at it," Bennett told Walesonline. "From my personal point of view with my contract being up at the end of the year, I am in negotiations with the Ospreys and it is about seeing how things unfold.

"It is about stepping back and seeing what happens."

The regions recently announced a new salary cap of £3.5million from next season - a move Bennett admits has left a number of players unsure over their long-term futures.

"We have been monitoring things and it is still quite fresh," he said. "For a lot of guys things are still going to be sinking in for a while and they will be reflecting on things.

"It was news to us and I don't think there will be any immediate reactions from players. I am sure a lot more will be said in time about what is going on because players want to know where they stand.

"These are matters that will be addressed by the four regions and it is good to see them working together and also with the Welsh Rugby Union."

Meanwhile Scarlets have declared their intent to keep Wales centre Jon Davies at the region.

"Of course we want Jon to stay and that is absolutely the intention," Scarlets chief executive Mark Davies said. "I couldn't possibly suggest anything else. We shouldn't under-estimate the players. It feels as if there is a perception out there that all of the players are entirely one-dimensional and all that motivates them is money.

"For these boys that is unfair. Of course, one dimension is cash, but the boys know the best environment for them to be in."
