Scotland have named Netherlands-born winger Tim Visser in the squad for their three-Test tour of the southern hemisphere this summer.

Scotland coach Andy Robinson has also included the uncapped Tom Brown, Ryan Grant, Robert Harley and Tom Ryder alongside Visser. But it is Visser who will take the headlines. The Edinburgh winger won the RaboDirect PRO12 Player of the Year Award on May 6, and has frequently topped the try-scoring charts in the Celtic league over the past few seasons with a record of 43 tries in 74 appearances.

Visser qualifies for Scottish residency on June 12 after spending three years in the country and has been fast-tracked into the national side. "I'm very honoured, having lived here for such a long time now I've got to know the country and the people very well and I feel very much part of the country," Visser said. "I feel really at home here and the people have been great. I would love to represent Scotland."

Visser is joined in the squad by Edinburgh back Brown who has been mentored by record points scorer Chris Paterson at the Scottish side. Brown is now looking to take his club form, which saw him play in a Heineken Cup semi-final, onto the international stage.

"Looking at where I was last year, I've come so far this year and being a part of the Edinburgh set-up has been a huge part of that development," Brown said. "My confidence has gone through the roof since last year and being involved in the (Heineken Cup) quarter and the semi-final, that was a huge step-up and I'm relishing the opportunity to go up another level."

Injuries and suspensions have hit the Scotland squad ahead of their Tests and the cancellation of the non-Test fixture with NSW Waratahs meant the squad was scaled back to a 28-man group. Coach Robinson is under no illusions to just how hard the task is ahead of his side.

"This is a tough tour for Scotland," Robinson said. "We'll be playing against three attack-minded teams on their own turf. But it's an important opportunity to start the rebuilding process after a disappointing Six Nations.

"One quarter of the squad has yet to start an international but we've seen from the manner in which Edinburgh and Glasgow have finished the domestic season that there's confidence that we will be looking to build on. "

Hooker Ross Ford has retained the captaincy after being skipper during the Six Nations, while Ruaridh Jackson has missed out on selection in favour of Warriors team-mate Duncan Weir.

Robinson will be joined on tour by assistant coach Scott Johnson, but Matt Taylor, who has agreed to join as defence coach, will continue his duties with Super Rugby Queensland Reds and is not part of Scotland's touring party. Johnson and Taylor replace Gregor Townsend and Graham Steadman, whose contracts were not renewed after the Six Nations.
