Shane Williams and Adam Jones are among seven players to have been released from the Wales squad in order to get valuable game-time under their belts ahead of the Six Nations opener against England at Twickenham on February 6.

The Lions duo will turn out for the Ospreys in their Anglo-Welsh Cup meeting with the Dragons at Rodney Parade on Friday night and will be joined by youngsters Kristian Phillips and Tom Prydie.

Winger Williams has recently recovered from a hamstring problem picked up during Wales' November loss to Australia, while tight-head Jones made his return from a dislocated shoulder just before Christmas.

Scarlets hooker Matthew Rees has just made an early comeback from a groin tear and is also set to be on club duty this weekend as they travel to face Wasps.

The Blues will be bolstered by centre Tom Shanklin and back-row Sam Warburton for their home fixture against Newcastle.

"There are a couple of players who have made recent returns from injury and are in need of game time so for them it has been an easy decision to make," Wales head coach Warren Gatland said. "It doesn't get any bigger than a visit to Twickenham to start off a Six Nations campaign and we must make sure we get our preparation exactly right. That means some players remain in camp for the fortnight and there are others who will benefit from seeing some senior rugby action this weekend."
