Ireland fullback Rob Kearney was named the Irish Rugby Union Players' Association Players' Player of the Year on Wednesday evening.

Kearney pipped fellow Ireland team-mates Munster's Ronan O'Gara and Ulster's Stephen Ferris to the gong and also added the Newstalk Supporters' Player of the Year award to his bourgeoning collection.

Kearney has been in sensational form all season as he helped guide Leinster to the top of the RaboDirect PRO12 and into the Heineken Cup final and he was humbled to collect the award. He said: "This is the first time I've received this award which has been voted for by my peers and I am overwhelmed, to be honest, that the other players in Ireland have chosen me."

Other individuals to scoop an award included Munster and Ireland's Peter O'Mahony who won the Young Player award for 2012 while Ulster's Gilroy won Try of the Year for his sensational solo effort against Munster in the Heineken Cup quarter-final.

Leinster's Kevin McLaughlin won the Unsung Hero Award with Mick O'Driscoll taking the Medal for Excellence. Now retired prop John Hayes was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
