Stephen Ferris will face a nervous few days while he waits to see if he will be fit in time to take part in Ireland's three November Tests.

The Ulster flanker was helped off by medical staff five minutes into the second half of Ulster's 45-20 win over Edinburgh at Ravenhill on Friday. It was the second time that Ferris went down clutching his right ankle during the match.

"Ferris' ankle was swelling badly and it was certainly not looking good," Ulster coach Mark Anscombe told The Belfast Telegraph.

The match marked the back-rower's return to action after he had missed the four previous fixtures with a back injury. Earlier in the week he had trained with the Ireland squad, but Ireland head coach Declan Kidney released him back to his province so that he could accrue much needed game time.

Ireland begin their autumn internationals against South Africa on November 10, then take on Fiji in Limerick on November 17 and finish in Dublin against Argentina on November 24.
