The Dragons are adamant they will not cash in star No.8 Toby Faletau amid reported interest from Bath Rugby.
Faletau still has a year left on his contract but reports over the past few months suggested that Bath were interested in the No.8's services and had tabled a transfer offer. And following George North's switch to Northampton, which was confirmed on Tuesday, there were suggestions that his decision to leave the Welsh regional set-up could result in others following him across the Severn Bridge.
But the Dragons, who announced the capture of Italian fly-half Kris Burton earlier this week, are keen to retain Faletau and have reiterated that he will be at Rodney Parade next term.
"Toby is a big part of our plans for next season and hopefully with the signings that we have made he can see the direction we are going in," head coach Darren Edwards told the South Wales Argus. "He will have a lot to think about in terms of his future and I hope that we can convince him to stay beyond next season.
"Toby will have a lot on his plate over the next few months with the Lions tour but we will certainly be trying our best to keep him. We weren't tempted (to sell him), I prefer to work with what I've got and it's important that we see Toby playing here at Rodney Parade.
"He is a home-grown player and a great young welsh player, it's important that we do our best to keep him in Wales rather than giving up and cashing in."
