Munster lock Paul O'Connell faces an anxious wait to see if he will be cited for accidentally kicking Leinster winger Dave Kearney during their intense RaboDirect PRO12 derby at Thomond Park on Saturday night.

The veteran second row, widely tipped to lead the British & Irish Lions to Australia later this year, has been in sparkling form since his return from a lengthy injury lay-off but faces another enforced absence if his nasty-looking attempt to hack a loose ball away only to kick his rival is deemed worthy of further attention by citing commissioner Eddie Walsh.

Referee Nigel Owens did not act during the game, that was won 22-16 by Leinster thanks largely to a try from centre Brian O'Driscoll, with Kearney understood to have lost consciousness for a period of time before being subsequently stretchered from the field.

The defeat ended Munster's PRO12 title hopes but if O'Connell is cited, he faces the prospect of possibly being suspended and missing Munster's Heineken Cup semi-final showdown with Clermont Auvergne later this month.
