Sky Sports have announced a four-year deal to broadcast the RaboDirect PRO12 starting from the outset of the 2014-15 campaign.

Sky will show 30 matches from the Celtic league plus the semi-finals and the final. Reports in the Telegraph claim the deal will work alongside existing broadcast contracts for the PRO12 with the league currently being shown on BBC ALBA, BBC Northern Ireland, RTE, TG4, BBC Wales and S4C.

The deal reportedly marks a 50% increase on the existing money on offer for the 12 teams in the PRO12 and will provide a welcome boost to the Welsh regions who are struggling to keep their best players amid the huge offers available in France and the Aviva Premiership.

For Sky, it will boost their portfolio after they lost the Premiership to BT Vision while they are are in the midst of a row surrounding the broadcasting future of the Heineken Cup. But for the PRO12 it will see 125 of 135 games broadcast the season after next and its chief executive John Feehan was delighted with the new deal.

Feehan said: "Our competition is growing from strength to strength and we feel this partnership with Sky Sports will allow us to extend the reach of the RaboDirect PRO12 in the UK and Ireland."
