Scotland sweat on host of injuries

Scotland have been rocked by a host of injuries ahead of Sunday's Test against South Africa with Matt Scott ruled out for the rest of the autumn series.

Scott injured his hand against Japan on Saturday and scans have revealed he has fractured a bone in his hand. Scotland team doctor James Robson hopes to see Scott back in action within six weeks.

And Scott is not the only player who could miss Sunday's game. Robson added: "Both Ryan Grant and Alastair Kellock are continuing to make good progress on the return to play protocol following the concussive episodes they sustained at the weekend.

"Duncan Weir was examined at SPIRE Shawfair Hospital in Edinburgh yesterday following the groin injury he suffered against Japan. He has minor soft tissue damage and is making good progress under the care of our physios, Paul McGinley and Stephen Mutch.

"His team-mate, Tim Swinson, continues to recover from the shoulder injury he sustained against Japan, though he will not be training this afternoon. Nor will Greig Laidlaw train this afternoon as he is undergoing re-hab and recovery from a calf injury from the weekend."

Scotland have moved to cover those injured by bringing in Edinburgh's Jack Cuthbert, Tom Brown, Lee Jones and Ross Rennie, Glasgow Warriors pair Jon Welsh and Byron McGuigan. They have also called up uncapped Leeds Carnegie full-back/centre Stevie McColl.
