Munster centurion Niall Ronan forced to retire

Munster back-rower Niall Ronan has announced his immediate retirement from the game.

Ronan suffered a knee injury in training back in October and needed surgery just before Christmas. But advice from various medical staff has forced him to call time on a career which saw him play 104 times for Munster and win four Ireland caps.

"It has been a huge honour for me to play with such a great team for the past seven years," Ronan said. "I'm very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play with Munster Rugby and I truly enjoyed the experience.

"I would like to thank the supporters, staff, teammates and people of Munster for my time here. I would also like to thank my family, friends and former clubs that I played with for all their help and support throughout my career."

Munster have also announced Denis Hurley and Johne Murphy have signed one-year extensions that will keep them at the province until June 2015.
