Edinburgh and Scotland centre Matt Scott will be out for the rest of the season.

Scott injured his shoulder in Scotland's final match of the Six Nations and has been forced to undergo surgery. Edinburgh had hoped Scott's injury would not require surgery and would heal itself but following a consultation with a shoulder specialist, he will undergo the knife.

The news comes as a blow not only for Edinburgh but also for Scotland. With Alex Dunbar a doubt for the Rugby World Cup after a knee injury, Scott also now faces a race against time.

Scott was set to be a big part of Scotland's plans for the World Cup, dovetailing with Mark Bennett, and Vern Cotter will hope the 24-year-old is fit to play a part in their warm-up matches.
