Ireland may have avoided a World Cup quarterfinal against the All Blacks but victory in their Pool D decider against France could yet play into Argentina's hands.

Joe Schmidt's side secured a 24-9 win over France in Cardiff on Sunday to ensure a last-eight meeting with the Pumas as they line up their first ever World Cup semifinal.

But Argentina head coach Daniel Hourcade feels his side, who rounded off the pool stage with a 64-19 win over Namibia on Sunday, have enough in their locker to trouble the Six Nations champions.

"Ireland play in the northern hemisphere and they play that way, but they've got some characteristics from the southern hemisphere," Hourcade said before kick-off between France and Ireland.

"So they play a bit differently -- they are very dynamic, similar to the way they play in the southern hemisphere. We feel comfortable with that, we're used to that sort of game.

"With France, last year in the first half [of November's 18-13 Autumn Test victory] we played really well and hurt them but when they played better in the second half it was difficult for us. We had to defend hard. It is very different styles.

"But Ireland are very consistent and they are playing really well."

Should Argentina pull off a shock win against Ireland, then Diego Maradona has promised to return to see the team, having watched their Pool C victory over Tonga at Leicester City Stadium.

"I hope he comes back, but I don't know if they will let him come in again," laughed Martin Landajo, who earned his 50th cap for Argentina in the win over Namibia.

"It was a great visit we had with Diego, but we're trying to think about quarterfinals. It is a huge error if we think about that.

"If something good happens then we will wait for him."
