France No.8 Louis Picamoles will join Northampton Saints on a three-year deal at the end of the season.

Speculation had linked the powerful back-row with a move to the Aviva Premiership club, although Saints attack coach Alex King dismissed it as "gossip".

However, both Northampton and Picamoles have now announced that a deal has been struck that will see the forward head to Franklin's Gardens ahead of next season.

Picamoles told RMC Sport: "I made my decision. I have told my club.

"Next year, I'm off to Northampton, and for the next three seasons.

"It is primarily a lifestyle choice. I have this opportunity open to me and since I will soon be 30 years old, I think it is the right time for me to try this experiment."

Picamoles has won 51 caps for France, with four of those appearances coming at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
