Edinburgh sign Tigers' Young on loan

Edinburgh have signed Scotland Under-21 prop David Young on loan from Leicester Tigers until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old joined Leicester's academy in 2004 and has made three appearances for the senior team.

Young, who played in all 10 Scotland Under-21 games at tighthead prop last year, said: "I see this as a great opportunity for me.

"Being at Leicester where there are three international props - Marcos Ayerza, Martin Castrogiovanni and Julian White - means it is hard as a young player to get games.

"This is a chance to play regular rugby and be back home, and it is a new challenge which I'm looking forward to."

Young could make his debut in the Magners League match against Connacht at Murrayfield on Friday night after he was named among the replacements.

Scotland players Allister Hogg and Simon Webster are in the starting line-up after being sidelined by injury since November.

Also returning to the side are Matt Dey and Matt Mustchin, with Greig Laidlaw named on the bench.

Coach Lynn Howells said: "It is good to have some of the senior players back available for us.

"Their experience can only enhance the confidence of the younger players around them.

"Connacht have proved to be a very difficult side to play against.

"Even outside the Magners League, they don't lose by many points so tomorrow night will be about producing a performance for 80 minutes."

Mike Blair (collar-bone), Alasdair Dickinson (ankle) and Craig Smith (neck) remain on the injury list for Edinburgh.
