Former Blues and New South Wales Waratahs scrum-half Grayson Hart has signed a two-year deal with Edinburgh Rugby and the Scotland Rugby Union, the nephew of former All Blacks coach John Hart looking to become the second New Zealander in as many years, after Sean Maitland, to fly the flag of his adopted country.

Hart is qualified to play for Scotland through grandmother Nancy Harvey, who was born in Glasgow but now resides in Wellington.

He is set to face stern competition from Greig Laidlaw at Edinburgh, but the Scotland scrum-half has spoken of a desire to become a utility player capable of playing at half-back, fly-half and fullback. Hart will also come up against former Scotland Under-20 scrum-half Sean Kennedy for the right to wear the RaboDirect PRO12 club's No.9 jumper.

Hart could reunite with Maitland for the first time since they played for the New Zealand Under-20 side in 2008 if he is selected for Scotland. Maitland, the fourth New Zealander to play for Scotland, after Brendan Laney, John Leslie and Martin Leslie, has played five Tests and was a part of the recent British & Irish Lions squad that beat Australia 2-1.

Hart played seven games in three seasons for the Blues before he crossed the Tasman to play for the Waratahs in 2012. starting against the Brumbies and Queensland Reds in the team's final two games last season, but he gained no minutes in 2013.
