Cullen continues as Leinster skipper

Leinster's new boss Matt O'Connor has confirmed Leo Cullen will skipper the province into the 2013-14 season.

Cullen, 35, is now in the twilight years of his career and admitted he did contemplate giving up the game last season following their pair of defeats to Clermont Auvergne in the Heineken Cup pool stages. But they finished the season on a high winning both the RaboDirect PRO12 and the Amlin Challenge Cup and Cullen is relishing another season with the men from Dublin.

"I love doing it , love representing the group," Cullen told the media at the PRO12 launch. "As the season panned out last year, you soul search a lot more when you're losing those games against Clermont, that's when you start contemplating giving up the game. Then when you start winning those games at the end of the year, that's when it feels like you can play forever. There'll come a day when I'll have to make that decision. But for now, I love what I do."

New boss O'Connor opted against immediate change when he named Cullen as captain and he has full faith in the veteran. "He's got a pretty good pedigree," O'Connor said. "He's the only guy to lift the Heineken Cup three times. Leo epitomises everything the group values, he's been an incredible leader. And the feeling was that there was no need to change away from that."
