Sam Lewis spurns Dragons to re-sign with Ospreys
January 3, 2014
Just two days after the Dragons revealed the signing of flanker Sam Lewis ahead of next season, the Ospreys have announced they have renewed his contract.
The Dragons spoke on Wednesday of their delight at the signing of Lewis with coach Lyn Jones saying: "This is a significant signing for us and just shows our determination to become the best region in Wales."
However, come Friday, the Ospreys announced that "despite reports elsewhere announcing a move to Newport Gwent Dragons, Sam Lewis has committed his future to the Ospreys."
It is a bizarre situation, but Lewis has admitted the confusion is his fault.
Lewis said: "I am 100% committed to the Ospreys and I'd like to apologise for any confusion caused by recent statements which coincided with a brief period of uncertainty on my part. However, I have signed a two-year contract to stay here at the Ospreys and I look forward to continuing to represent my home region as I continue to develop on and off the field."
