The RaboDirect PRO12 has confirmed it will implement new protocols on pitch-side assessments on suspected concussion (PCSA) with immediate effect.

There has been increasing debate in recent months over the need for more vigorous action on players who have, or who may have, suffered concussion. The PSCA was implemented in response to this criticism . Rory Lamont spoke to exclusively to ESPN last month about his concerns regarding the tests.

The Celtic Rugby Board met last week and gave approval for all 12 clubs participating in the RaboDirect PRO12 to use the new assessments.

The IRB has continued with the controversial concussion tests in international tests since implementation in 2012, which requires all players to go through an assessment off the field of play before a decision is made on whether they can return to the game.

The league's official website and Twitter account confirmed the news - and the PSCA should be in effect from this weekend onwards.
