Italian club Treviso have decided not to compete in the RaboDirect PRO12 after this season. A statement on the club's website said "a prolonged lack of final decisions" had led them not to renew their contract with the tournament.

The club joined teams from Wales, Ireland and Scotland in the league in 2009 and their participation agreement ends this summer.

Treviso could join a competition which is expected to be set up by the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) which will involve an eight-team league in the country. Zebre, who also play in the PRO12, are yet to declare their intentions.

A statement from the club read: "Benetton Rugby from now on declares itself available to consider, and eventually participate, in future tournaments or games that the Italian Rugby Federation wishes to propose, once the RaboDirect PRO12 competition is defined."
