Lions wait on injuries to three
October 17, 2000

The Lions will only make a decision on Thursday whether three star players will be fit to take on Western Province in a Currie Cup semifinal at Newlands on Saturday.

Scrumhalf Werner Swanepoel injured his shoulder against the Pumas in his first game back from injury, centre Japie Mulder has an intercostal rib niggle and flank Rassie Erasmus a buttock muscle problem.

Erasmus said: "It's frustrating. I would like to get back on the field to prove my fitness."

Bok captain and No 8 Andre Vos will luckily be making his return on Saturday. Lions coach Laurie Mains also has to consider whether the in-form Hennie le Roux wouldn't be a better bet than Louis Koen at flyhalf.

Koen hasn't been at his best of late and lacks the variety in his game to keep the opposition guessing.
