Antonio Felix da Costa wants to see Daniel Ricciardo promoted to Red Bull in 2014 to allow him to secure a race seat at Toro Rosso.
Ricciardo has been named as one of two drivers in the frame to replace Mark Webber at the end of the season, with Christian Horner saying it's a choice between him and Kimi Raikkonen. Felix da Costa will hand over the RB9 to Ricciardo on Thursday afternoon following a full day in the car on Wednesday and he admitted he hopes to see Ricciardo get the nod next year to aid his own chances.
"Yeah, I don't hide the fact that the goal is to be in F1 next year," Felix da Costa said. "This will only happen if we have a good end to the season in World Series by Renault so that's my focus and I think it would be good to see a junior driver step in to Red Bull; I think that's what the junior team is all about."
Asked if Raikkonen moving to Red Bull would signal the end of his Toro Rosso hopes for 2014, Felix da Costa replied: "No, I don't think so. I think if we do a good end to the series in World Series then my hopes are open and then I'm sure whatever the team does is the best choice for the team."
Reflecting on his day in the car for Red Bull, Felix da Costa said he was pleased with his performance as he acknowledges it's an important opportunity for him to impress.
"It was really good; obviously it's not the first time for me so everything is a bit more familiar. I think it's an important test, especially having it in the middle of the season is really important for the teams and with the tyres changing for the next race. So we just made sure we got on top of that and trying to understand some of the new parts that are coming in. My job is just to drive consistently, not make mistakes and help the team as much as I can.
"[The tests are] really important. At the end of the day a test like this - I know it's called a young driver test but a test in the middle of the season is really important for the team. So we have to help the team as much as possible, but at the end of the day I'm putting myself in a world champion team and possibly car come the end of the year, so for me as a driver it's a great chance."
