Mark Webber has undergone the final bit of surgery on his leg to repair a break dating back to 2008.

Webber broke his leg during his Tasmania Challenge event over the close season between 2008 and 2009 and last week underwent the final operation to remove a piece of metal from his leg. The surgery had been planned for some time and ahead of the operation he told journalists that it had been factored in to his off-season plans.

"It's the final chapter and is all part of the plan - the operation was planned in April," he said. "I've got to get a nail taken out of my leg, it's the nail in my shin bone. I'll be recovering from that and out of action for a while."

Tweeting on Monday following the surgery, Webber said: "Home and feeling great. Last bit of metal out of my lower leg. Feeling lighter already."
