Berger denies link to Renault job
Ex-Formula One driver Gerhard Berger has denied rumours he will take a senior position at the newly-owned Renault team.
Renault recently sold a majority share of its team to investment company Genii Capital, and French publication Auto Hebdo reported Berger was in talks to become the new team principal. However, German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport said Berger laughed off suggestions he would join the team in 2010 and denied any involvement with the team.
Renault's press office told ESPNF1 that, while management positions at the team were under discussion, no decisions had yet been made.
Since retiring from racing in 1997, Berger has worked in management roles at both BMW and Toro Rosso. Between 2000 and 2003 he was competition director at BMW and in 2006 he took a 50% stake in Toro Rosso. He lead the team to its first win at Monza in 2008, but decided to sell his share back to Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz at the end of the season.
