Former All Black Sam Tuitupou will leave Munster at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old centre joined the province from Worcester at the end of the last campaign and is expected to return to the Aviva Premiership when his time at Thomond Park comes to an end.

Capped nine times by New Zealand between 2004 and 2006, Tuitupou won Super 12 and NPC titles with Auckland and the Blues before joining the Warriors in 2007.

"We here at Munster thank Sammy for his efforts this season," Munster boss Tony McGahan said. "He has been a popular member of the squad and has certainly added to our backline unit.

"His dynamic work at the contact area has been a strong focal point for us in both attack and defence. We wish him the best in both his rugby and personal life in the future."

Meanwhile, long serving Munster wing Ian Dowling has been forced to retire due to a hip injury. The 28-year old played 97 times for the province during his career, winning two Heineken Cups and a Magners League title, and also won two caps for Ireland.
