Former Wales scrum-half Warren Fury has signed a two-year contract extension with Newcastle Falcons.

Fury, 28, who played twice for Wales on their 2008 tour of South Africa, has made 44 appearances for the Falcons since joining the club in 2012. He faces a battle with incoming Bristol scrum-half Ruki Tipuna and experienced Scotland international Mike Blair for the No.9 jersey.

"There is a great culture being created here at the club at present and I'm really pleased to be a part of it," said Fury. "The North East public are extremely passionate about sport, and I can really feel that passion every time I play at Kingston Park. I'm looking forward to the challenge of competing for a regular first team place."

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards said: "Warren is a tenacious and determined individual who gives his all every time he walks out onto the park. He's also a great character both on and off the pitch and I'm really pleased he has re-signed with the club."
