Wolves slay Rhinos to clinch Challenge Cup

Warrington Wolves were crowned Challenge Cup champions for the third time in four years after an emphatic 35-18 victory over Leeds Rhinos at Wembley.

In a repeat of the 2010 showpiece, which Warrington won, the Wolves adapted to the wet conditions better than last year's runners-up, running in six tries to consign the Rhinos to three straight final defeats at Wembley - a new record.

Leeds may have won five of the last eight Super League titles but their Challenge Cup heartache stretches to five finals since beating London Broncos in 1999.

Joel Monaghan and Trent Waterhouse crossed to put Warrington 12-10 up at half-time, with Ian Kirke getting on the scoresheet for Leeds. The Wolves extended their lead as Chris Riley, Tyrone McCarthy and Ryan Atkins all touched down and, although a Kallum Watkins double made the scoreline more respectable, Brett Hodgson sealed the Rhinos' fate.

Wolves full-back Hodgson, who shook off a massive hit from Leeds prop Kylie Leuluai, waded in with five goals to earn the man-of-the-match award.
