Record-breaker Brough wins Man of Steel award

Huddersfield Giants captain Danny Brough has been named the 2013 Super League Man of Steel.

After recently being named Rugby League Writers' player of the year, Brough beat Wigan's Sean O'Loughlin and Leeds' Jamie Peacock to claim the Albert Goldthorpe award.

"I was pretty gobsmacked," Brough said. "There are many great players in the game and, for me to receive this many awards, it's the best year I've had in my career by far.

"[Being captain] meant I've had to lead from the front in every game, not take a step back and, when things haven't been going so good, I've had to try to step up.

"I play off the cuff but, since I've had the captaincy, I've had to try to stand up and be pretty basic - not have one good game in four."

Brough broke Ben Gronow's record of a 147 goals in a season - a Giants record for 93 years - and Pat Devey's record for points in a season.

Paul Anderson was named coach of the year after he oversaw Huddersfield's first table-topping finish in 81 years.
