England overcame a resistant Fiji to earn an emphatic 34-12 victory and a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.

Fiji led 6-0 in front of a 25,114 crowd in Hull, but England rallied to get back to 6-6 at half time before shifting up a gear in the second half, scoring five tries in a blistering 15-minutes spell to secure the runner-up spot in Group A.

Winger Ryan Hall, who went to the top of England's scoring charts with a hat-trick in last week's win over Ireland, scored two more to take his total to 19 from 18 appearances, while Sam Burgess, who missed the Ireland game through suspension, returned with a man-of-the-match performance that included the try that put his side in front for the first time.

Ben Westwood, Brett Ferres and Rob Burrow also went over for the hosts, with skipper Kevin Sinfield adding five goals.

Eloni Vunakece and Semi Radradra scored the tries for Fiji, with two goals from Kevin Naiqama.

England will now face the losers of Monday's final Group B match between France and Samoa in the third quarter-final at Wigan next Saturday
