England lock Simon Shaw has been ruled out of their Six Nations showdown with Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday.

The Wasps veteran picked up a shoulder injury in the early stages of England's defeat to Ireland two weeks ago and is yet to sufficiently recover. Louis Deacon deputised on that occasion, but manager Martin Johnson has drafted in Stade Francais' Tom Palmer as a precaution.

Following the weekend's Guinness Premiership action there was a concern over Leicester fly-half Toby Flood, who took a bang to the head during victory over London Irish.

He will be monitored by the England medical staff but Northampton's Shane Geraghty, who started England's November series in the No. 12 jersey, has been called in from the Saxons setup.

There is also a return to the international fold for World Cup-winning centre Mike Tindall, who has been asked to report for training following an ankle injury sustained by Leicester's Dan Hipkiss.

London Irish fullback Delon Armitage is progressing well following a rib injury but again the management have erred on the side of caution and called up Gloucester's Olly Morgan. The final new face at training is Leeds' in-form flanker Hendre Fourie, who is deputising for Wasps' Dan Ward-Smith following a knee problem.
