Adam Jones and Gavin Henson are both in doubt for Wales' Six Nations opener against England after picking up injuries on club duty at the weekend.

Ospreys tight-head prop Jones injured his left elbow during his side's Heineken Cup defeat to London Irish on Sunday while Saracens centre Henson limped out of their loss to Leinster on Saturday.

Wales coach Warren Gatland, who is set to name his latest squad on January 24, is awaiting scan results on both players who could join the injured duo of loose-head Gethin Jenkins and centre Andrew Bishop and suspended scrum-half Richie Rees on the sidelines.

"Adam has strained left elbow ligaments," confirmed Ospreys head coach Sean Holley following his side's Heineken Cup exit. "I've just spoken to the medical team about it; it's too early to go into too much detail. He felt he couldn't continue, particularly with the lifting in the lineout. There will be further investigations tomorrow and Tuesday to discover the extent of the injury and we'll update accordingly when we can."

Henson's hopes of making an international return just two months into his playing comeback took a blow when he was forced out of the action in the second half at the RDS with a suspected calf injury having only entered the fray as a replacement at the end of the opening period.

The 28-year-old Henson, who returned to the Wales fold for fitness testing earlier this month, was in line to benefit from the injury that has ruled Bishop out of action for up to eight weeks but is running out of time to prove his fitness before the clash with England in Cardiff on February 4.

The loss of the in-form Jones would be a more severe blow to Gatland and his side's Championship hopes having been a key figure for his country in recent years. The British & Irish Lion suffered the injury when a scrum collapsed in the first half of the Madejski Stadium clash. He received on-field treatment and played on with heavy strapping before making way at half-time.
