Not long ago, it took many years for a player to notch 50 appearances for his country. But Andrew Henderson became the 22nd Scotland player to reach this milestone in the Six Nations match against France in February 2008, six-and-a-half years after his debut match against Ireland in September 2001.
It was a try-scoring start and Henderson's total of eight is a respectable return for an international inside centre. More pertinently for Scotland, having his name on the score sheet has often meant a 'W' in the result column.
Henderson is one of the first names on the Scotland team sheet, having been a regular since 2004 and his best form to date was in the 2006 Six Nations and on the tour to South Africa in the same year. This was a year after a man-of-the-match performance in Scotland's inaugural win over the Barbarians in May 2005.
Henderson was a member of the Scotland Under-21 squad that competed in the SANZAR tournament in New Zealand in 2000. He also helped the Scottish Students achieve third place in the 2000 Students' World Cup in Italy and first pulled on the Scotland shirt in the non-cap match against the Barbarians in May 2001. Other national representative honours include Scotland 'A' and Sevens.
Henderson is also one of Glasgow Warriors' longest serving players. To date the former pupil of Lenzie Academy has made 84 appearances for the club and scored six tries. He played for Glasgow's Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 sides and toured New Zealand with the Glasgow Thistles Development squad in 1999.
