Paterson returns to training

Scotland boss Andy Robinson has had mixed news on the injury front as he prepares his squad for their opening November Test, against Fiji at Murrayfield on November 14.

Fullback Chris Paterson has resumed training after receiving a course of antibiotics to combat the foot infection that ruled him out of Edinburgh's Magners League loss to the Dragons last weekend, but his club colleague Ben Cairns remains sidelined with a knee injury.

The big injury problem for Robinson concerns Gloucester prop Alasdair Dickinson, who has returned to his club for further treatment on a shoulder injury. Dickinson will miss Scotland's entire Test programme.

Any hopes that dynamic Glasgow centre Max Evans might feature against Fiji, Australia or Argentina have also been dashed by the news that he requires minor knee surgery.

"Evans is to undergo minor surgery to correct a small problem on his knee with the likelihood that he would return to action for Glasgow in their matches against either Ulster or Gloucester in December," read an SRU statement.
