Worcester centre Alex Grove is close to agreeing a one-year loan deal with Magners League side Edinburgh as he looks to press his claims for a place in Scotland's Rugby World Cup squad.

With the Warriors slipping out of the Guinness Premiership there is little scope for Grove, 22, to impress in the Championship next season. The club have opened talks with the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) about a short-term deal to enhance Grove's prospects.

"Worcester Warriors can confirm it is in discussion with the SRU and Scotland head coach Andy Robinson," a statement said. "Alex's long-term future remains with Worcester Warriors.

"His attitude off the pitch and ability on it makes him an important part of our future. Alex has spoken to the chairman to reiterate his long-term commitment and desire to extend his contract at Sixways in the near future."

Grove, who qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather, made his Test debut during the 2009 November Tests but did not feature during the Six Nations, losing out to Glasgow duo Graeme Morrison and Max Evans. He has nevertheless been included in the squad for their upcoming tour of Argentina.
