Cardiff Blues boss Dai Young will have to make do without the services of Kiwi centre Casey Laulala in Friday night's Magners League clash with Treviso at the Stadio di Monigo.
Laulala was forced off just six minutes into Saturday's win over the Newport Gwent Dragons after taking a blow to the head. As a consequence, the region's doctors have decided against allowing him to play in Italy as a precautionary measure.
"Laulala was up and about within 10 minutes of being taken off but will have further tests on the injury later on this week," a Cardiff statement read.
The former Crusaders midfielder will be a major loss for the Blues if ruled out for longer, with a possible race against time prior to their opening Heineken Cup fixture against Edinburgh on October 9. Young remains optimistic however.
"Casey is OK, he just had a bang on the head and there is nothing structurally wrong," he told The Western Mail. "It is always a precaution when you are dealing with the spinal injuries. He was up and about in the dressing room thankfully. It looked quite nasty at the time but it was a bang on the head. Fair play to the medics because you need to take every precaution."
