Leinster's hopes of bouncing back from their damaging away defeat to Magners League new-boys Benetton Treviso could be boosted by the return of Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton.

Sexton, along with lock Devin Toner, is in the mix to feature against Edinburgh at Murrayfield on Friday, having pulled out of Leinster's win over Cardiff Blues two weeks ago with a quad injury.

The pair will be under observation during the week, with a decision on their fitness expected at Thursday's team announcement.

In Sexton's absence, youngster Ian Madigan has stepped up at No.10 and the 21-year-old is under no illusions about the importance of their trip to the Scottish capital.

"They're a very dogged side and they have one of the best place-kickers in the competition in Chris Paterson," he said. "We know that we're going to have to be very disciplined going over there. They're none from three, and we have won just the once in three games, so both teams are going to look to win the game. So we're expecting a close one on Friday.

"Both teams know that if either side loses that they will be in the bottom three, but if you win you could find yourself back in the top four. So it's a very important game for both of us, so early on in the season."

Meanwhile, Leinster flanker Sean O'Brien has been cited for making contact with the eyes of an opponent during their defeat to Treviso. The Ireland international, 23, will face an Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) disciplinary panel on Wednesday, having been called up by the independent citing commissioner after a 62nd minute incident.
