Ospreys lock Ian Evans has been cleared of serious injury after being forced from the field in their Magners League loss to Munster at Thomond Park on Saturday.

The Wales international landed awkwardly at a lineout during the 22-10 defeat and fears were immediately voiced that he could face another long spell on the sidelines.

Evans spent a year out of the game after suffering knee ligament damage in Wales' loss to New Zealand in 2008 and was later forced to sit out three months of action with a chest injury sustained while playing Premiership rugby for Swansea.

Ospreys physio Chris Towers has confirmed that Evans will be back sooner rather than later after positive scan results, with their next major tie coming away to Toulon in the Heineken Cup on October 9.

"Ian sustained an injury to his left foot and ankle in the Munster game and although he is in a fair bit of discomfort at the moment his scan has shown that the injury is a fairly diffuse issue," he said. "Basically, he's sustained grade one damage to a lot of soft tissues in the foot and ankle, so the prognosis is a lot better than originally feared. We hope to see a fairly steep recovery once this acute phase of the healing process starts to settle over the next week or so."
