Chris Paterson eyes win over England

Scotland legend Chris Paterson has not paid any thought to a possible Wooden Spoon decider against Italy on March 19, insisting that all his focus is on upsetting England at Twickenham.

The 102-times-capped fullback took a number of positives from last weekend's 21-18 loss to Ireland at Murrayfield but the Scots will have to lift their intensity levels further if they are to halt England's Grand Slam quest at Twickenham in two weeks' time.

With Italy also winless after three rounds of action and England growing in confidence there is a possibility however that another shootout to avoid last place will occur in Edinburgh in the final round.

"We'll deal with England and whatever happens the week after that happens," he said. "If that is the case we've been in that situation too often in recent years. We don't look any further forward than England. It's a big enough ask concentrating on them, never mind what comes after."

Paterson, who kicked 12 points against Ireland, criticised his side's defence but believes that they are not a million miles away from stringing a few tries together.

"There were so many positives out there, but the huge negative was the scoreline and the manner in which we conceded the three tries," he said. "It's disappointing not to score tries. I thought we created one or two good opportunities and didn't finish them.We go to Twickenham in two weeks' time, it's a huge ask - the form team of the Six Nations - but we're going there determined to score tries and get a win. It's about putting it all together."

Meanwhile, Six Scotland players, including Paterson (shoulder bruising), required treatment following Sunday's match, but none of the injuries sustained provided cause for concern.

Among the forwards, Richie Gray had a knee strain, captain Alastair Kellock had hand bruising and a neck strain and flanker John Barclay had a bruised knee. Centre Sean Lamont (shoulder bruising) also required treatment, as did fly-half Ruaridh Jackson (calf).
