Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder is the favourite to take on the Scotland head coach role, according to reports.

Scott Johnson has recently taken on the director of rugby role for Scotland but will continue as interim head coach until they make a permanent appointment. The likes of Chiefs coach Wayne Smith and Reds boss Ewen McKenzie have been suggested as possible candidates but reports in the Edinburgh Evening News earlier this week said Crusaders coach Blackadder is now the standout candidate.

His chances of landing the job have been handed a further boost following McKenzie's declaration that he has not yet had contact with the Scottish Rugby Union and Smith distancing himself from the post. The 3 News channel said: "Smith was linked to the role along with (Canterbury) Crusaders coach and former Edinburgh captain
Todd Blackadder by the 
Edinburgh Evening News.

"However, Smith told 3 News he has never talked to the Scotland Rugby Union and is not available to join them."

Blackadder is well versed in Scottish rugby having captained Edinburgh and he also spent time with Scotland as a coaching assistant. He is now at the Crusaders but is yet to win a Super Rugby title with the franchise.

Also linked with the post, according to the Scotsman, is Alan Solomons who is currently in charge of Super Rugby side the Southern Kings.
