George Pisi suspended for tip tackle

George Pisi will miss the remainder of Samoa's matches in November after he was handed a six-week ban for a tip tackle on Ireland wing Tommy Bowe in the test at Aviva Stadium last weekend.

Pisi convinced a three-man disciplinary panel in London that he had not committed a dangerous tackle, as cited, but a tip tackle that carries a lesser ban. But he failed to persuade the panel that it wasn't a red-card offence - he received only a yellow card from referee Steve Walsh - and the committee decided on that basis that the offence warranted a mid-range entry point of an eight-week suspension.

That suspension was increased by two weeks as a deterrent with regard to tip tackles, before four weeks were taken off after various mitigating factors were taken into account.

Pisi, who has the right of appeal, cannot play until December 23, ruling him out of Samoa's fixtures against the French Barbarians on Saturday and Georgia the following weekend as well as Northampton Saints' club matches in December.
