Cardiff Blues hooker Matthew Rees has turned his attention to making the 2015 Rugby World Cup squad after returning to the game following a spell of cancer treatment.

Rees made his return to the field on Saturday during the Blues' win over Ulster in what was his first match since October. During that time Rees underwent surgery and treatment for testicular cancer but just five months later, he was back on the field.

Rees last played for Wales in 2013 but he is still hopeful of making the grade next year saying: "An end goal of mine is hopefully try and make that World Cup squad."

And he told the BBC that he has taken heart from Adam Jones and Gethin Jenkins' durability in the front-row. He said: "That's down to me personally. It's [about] putting big performance back on the park and hopefully selection will look after itself then.

"You've got to take your hat off to Gethin and Adam. They're still playing international rugby and we know how tough international rugby is these days. Obviously Gethin's got a great record with a 105 caps and Adam's not far behind.

"But for me personally it's just about getting back on the park and enjoying my rugby and then everything else will look after itself.
