News: Paul James swaps Bath for Ospreys

Wales' centre crisis appears to have eased after Warren Gatland received a triple boost over the fitness of Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams and Cory Allen.

Wales were waiting on the results of a scan on Davies after he was hurt during the early stages of Clermont Auvergne's European Champions Cup victory over Sale Sharks at Stade Marcel Michelin on Sunday.

Initial reports in the French media had said that Davies had suffered a dislocated shoulder which would have likely ruled him out of the autumn campaign, but scan results have revealed that it was only a shoulder muscle problem, according to WalesOnline.

Scarlets' Williams and Cardiff Blues' Allen had reported hamstring and leg issues respectively, but the trio are set to be reintegrated into training next week before the opening autumn Test against Australia on November 8.

"It's pretty positive news all around really," said forwards coach Robin McBryde.

"We are still monitoring the way the players are progressing with regard to their rehab, but it's looking good ahead of next week and hopefully most, if not all, will be taking a part next week.

"Things are going in the right way. It's early to make a definite call, but it's a lot more positive than what we first thought."

McBryde also believed Wales will be boosted by the news that Bath prop Paul James will rejoin the Ospreys at the end of the season.

"It's positive news for any Welsh fan from a national perspective," said McBryde. "He is going to strengthen and bolster any squad he is involved in.

"He's a good leader, he knows the scrum inside and out. Having a player of Paul's capability back playing in Wales has got to be great.

"It's going to be great for the youngsters in the Ospreys region as well. He has got a battle on his hands with Nicky Smith playing the way that he is."
