Wales and Lions prop Howard Norris dies

Former Cardiff, Wales and British & Irish Lions prop Howard Norris has died aged 80 in a nursing home in Cardiff.

Norris made a club record 415 first-team appearances for Cardiff RFC across 12 season, scoring 14 tries. But he also has the peculiar distinction of having played more Test matches for the Lions than he did for Wales. His two appearances for Wales both came against France, in 1963 and 1966, and he made three Test appearances for the Lions on the 1966 tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Norris was born in Porth, Rhondda in June 1934 and started his career with local club Tylorstown before moving to Cardiff Arms Park in 1958.

A statement on Cardiff Blues website paid tribute to the prop, saying: "Cardiff Blues is saddened to hear the news that former Cardiff RFC, Wales and British & Irish Lion prop, Charles Howard Norris has passed away.

"Everyone at Cardiff Blues would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends at this time."
