Glasgow Warriors forward Ryan Wilson has been suspended without pay for three months by the Scottish Rugby Union after being found guilty of assaulting a fellow player on a night out.

Wilson, who has nine caps for Scotland, is also banned from playing for the national team until at least August 23, 2015 - shortly before Scotland's third World Cup warm-up game.

Wilson was found guilty on January 27 at Glasgow's Sheriff Court of assaulting Glasgow Hawks captain Ally Maclay in October 2013, prompting the SRU to call a hearing of their own to discuss the employment implications.

That concluded on Wednesday with the SRU releasing a statement detailing the sanctions against Wilson.

It read: "Ryan Wilson is suspended with immediate effect, without pay, from training with, and playing for, Glasgow Warriors for a period of three months.

"Ryan Wilson will also undertake a programme organised through Glasgow Warriors and Scottish Rugby to support his personal development around the factors which contributed to the original conviction.

"It was decided Ryan Wilson will not be invited to play for the Scotland national team until August 23, 2015.

"This date is ahead of the third match of the 2015 World Cup warm up series following matches against Ireland and Italy on August 15th and August 22nd respectively. He will be permitted, if invited, to train with the Scotland squad only after the 2015 RBS 6 Nations has concluded."

Wilson has the right to appeal against the verdict. He had already been left out of Vern Cotter's Scotland squad for the Six Nations.
