Ireland's women emulated the men in hammering Scotland to claim the Six Nations title.

Ireland had to overturn a 27 points difference to pip France to the title but they eased past Scotland scoring 11 tries and winning 73-3. It was their second championship in three years and was the perfect way to mark captain Niamh Briggs' 50th cap.

Alison Miller grabbed a hat-trick for Ireland alongside tries from Briggs, Claire Molloy, Heather O'Brien, Gillian Bourke, Paula Fitzpatrick, Sophie Spence, Tania Rosser and Jenny Murphy.

France finish in second and their 21-15 win at Twickenham the day previous ensured the chase to the title would go down to the final day. Jessy Tremouliere was in inspired form for France and scored 16 of their points, including one of their tries, with hooker Gaelle Mignot grabbing their other score. England mustered two tries of their own with Hannah Gallagher and Harriet Millar-Mills going over.

And Italy finished the campaign with a victory as they saw off Wales 22-5 in Padua. They scored three tries with Flavia Severin, Sara Barattin and Paola Zangirolami all crossing.
