Vasil Lobzhanidze is poised to become the youngest player in Rugby World Cup history.

The Georgia half-back doesn't turn 19 until after the knockout phase of the tournament, and no 18-year-old has ever played in the tournament.

United States centre Thretton Palamo currently is the youngest player in World Cup history, having played South Africa at the 2007 tournament eight days after his 19th birthday.

Lobzhanidze, who has five Test caps, made his debut for the world No.13 side against Germany in the European Nations Cup in February.

"Our objective in the last two months was to select and train the best ever prepared Georgian rugby team to compete at a World Cup," Georgia's New Zealand coach, Milton Haig, said of his 31-man squad. "And we certainly think that's what we have achieved."

Georgia, the Lelos, will play their first Test against New Zealand in Cardiff on October 2.

They have contested the past three tournaments, winning one pool game at each of the past two - against Namibia in 2007 and Romania in 2011.
