Jacques Burger admitted his body will be thanking him after he brought his Saracens career to an end on Sunday.

The hard-hitting flanker bowed out in front of a packed Allianz Park as Saracens battled back from 14-3 down at half-time to beat Newcastle Falcons 23-14.

Known for his combative style, the 32-year-old Burger revealed he would miss training with teammates and competing on the field, but admitted his weary limbs will appreciate a rest.

"To be honest my body is going to be very happy to not be able to smash everybody every weekend so the rest will do me really well," Burger told Saracens.com. "I will honestly miss playing. There will be times when I'll wish I could play with the boys.

"There is no feeling like it, even when it is really tough and you're not really enjoying training because it's really hard, and you get stuck in to each other and you're part of that group.

"You're working together and afterwards it's that satisfaction of doing it together and now I'm going in to something that I'm doing on my own. It is a completely different world so it's hard to explain how I'm going to feel."

While Burger is standing down, the season is far from over for Saracens as they face up to a Champions Cup final and Aviva Premiership playoff campaign. The North London club are likely to find a new fan on the touchline.

"I am going to hang around, I want to support the boys as much as I can" Burger said. "I want to be on the stage when they lift the cup and get right at the front and pretend that I played. I am going to go in full kit!

"This whole group has been such a big part of this whole process and if one guy got injured the other one stepped in, so I have never felt that I am not part of this group, I've never felt that I should fade away and not celebrate with them because it has been a real team effort."
